I have always had a deeper sense of empathy for wildlife, especially towards species that are misunderstood and considered a threat. The concern gradually led my inclination towards herpetology, specifically towards snakes and the misconceptions and superstitions surrounding them. As part of my Master’s in Wildlife Biology at Centre for Wildlife Studies, KVASU, Pookode, I analysed the occurrence of skeletal growth marks (SGMs) in road-killed snakes of south Wayanad region. Following my passion, I then focused on raising public awareness on snakes and snake-bite management, alongside research on public perspective towards snakes, during my employment period at MVR Snake Park and Zoo, Parassinikkadavu, as Zoo Research Officer. I am currently working on the project “Maintenance and Enrichment of Wildlife Museum” at Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi, where I still build my interactive skills with the general public and focus on educating and raising awareness on different threatened species in addition to snakes.
