Ecology has been fascinating me since my graduation where we study how the forest types and plant composition varies with temperature, precipitation and altitude. During my post-graduation research on ecotourism, I started understanding the relationship between habitat and its flora and fauna. In the process of exploring and understanding this relationship I came across the terminologies - community ecology, biodiversity conservation, habitat management and ecological indicators. The more I read about these concepts and methods, more passionate I became to pursue research on plant-animal-habitat relationships. My passion got moulded while working on the project on tree-cavities which are one of the critical microhabitats in almost all ecosystems. Working on such structures in a biodiversity hotspot like the Western Ghats gave me a huge living laboratory and opportunity to turn my passion into action and evidence-based policy research. To reach out this complex research to end-users, I translated my interest in writing to science journalism with a hope to make biodiversity conservation a community effort.
