My research interests range broadly in wildlife biology, conservation biology, behavioural ecology and evolutionary ecology. Specific interests are ecology and conservation of threatened and fragmented populations, population monitoring, wildlife–habitat relationships, biodiversity conservation in human-altered habitats, population dynamics and life-history evolution of vertebrates, human-wildlife interactions, human dimensions of wildlife and conflict mitigation, evidence-based conservation and policy making, citizen science and conservation education.
I grew up in the foothills of the Western Ghats, where I was exposed to the wildlife around me and developed a keen interest in them. In college, I studied Zoology and later obtained a doctoral degree from Bharathiar University, through the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology & Natural History , for my study on the ecology of the Grey-headed Bulbul, which is endemic to the Western Ghats. After a brief post-doctoral position, I joined NSS College Manjeri , where I served as an Assistant Professor. Following this, I moved to the Division of Conservation Biology at the Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanic Garden & Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram as a scientist. Since late 2018, I have been serving as a Scientist at the Kerala Forest Research Institute. In addition to my responsibilities in leading the Department of Wildlife Biology, I also coordinate the Centre for Citizen Science and Biodiversity Informatics .
